The venue was the Aspley Guise & Woburn Sands Golf Club and the proceeds raised were donated to OOSO.
OOSO was the guest of honour and were made extremely warm and welcome.
We tried to dress with a "tartan" influence but could not match the other guests nor the entertainers - some of whom had travelled from Scotland.
His endeavours have resulted in more than £3,000 being raised for OOSO. A tremendous effort and a huge help in our mission to buy ICU Beds for The Churchill Hospital in Oxford.
Not only did he organise the evening, but Gordon also persuaded the club to provide two vouchers for golfers to play the course.
Details about these vouchers are described below.
And There's More
The original 9 holes were designed by the late Sandy Herd in 1912 and constructed by Charles Willmott who remained as the Club Professional for 42 years. The Course was opened for play in May 1914. Four well known professionals were invited to play an exhibition match on the opening day.
They were Sandy Herd, Ted Ray, Tom Ball and B. Batley.
The lowest score of the day was returned by Tom Ball with a score of 68 for 18 holes. In 1972 further land was purchased and another 9 holes designed by Robert Sandow. The full 18 holes were opened for play on May 25th 1974.
Further information can be found in an article displayed on the Woburn Sands History website
