Recipes for Success

Our treatments for cancer within the NHS are broadly similar, with trusted clinicians following a tried and tested series of steps and solutions, towards the best possible outcome for us - well that's the theory! But as with all recipes, it's important to have the right ingredients, to mix them in the right way and correct order. It's equally important, and sometimes overlooked, that we play an absolutely vital role in our own treatment.

A recipe for success includes being as positive as we can, not easy we know!; and carefully following the instructions of clinicians; keeping as well as we can by staying active day to day, a short daily walk does wonders, and being proactive in dealing with medications, appointments and other health issues as they crop up. Yes, it's definitely not easy when we feel lousy, but with a little help and humour from those around us and some 'get up and go', the road to a full recovery isn't far away.

Top Tip - After Supper Stroll

Tom Doust recently shared this very helpful tip, simply to take a short stroll after supper. Tom says it needn't be much more than 10 or 15 minutes, to allow your meal to settle and work its way through more easily, very much by gravity and movement as you walk. The upshot being a much better night's sleep and a lot lower risk of suffering acid reflux.

Sometimes the simplest tip can make the biggest difference - thanks Tom! If you have a top tip you'd like to share please email it to me
here.

Cracking Snacking

As a reminder for your diary, our next zoom session will take place in two weeks time, on Tuesday 21st March at 7pm. Former patients and OOSO supporters Kevin and Deborah will join us sharing tips and ideas, especially around conserving energy levels and avoiding those horrible 'dumping' episodes, whilst still being able to eat what we fancy. As Kevin very aptly coined the phrase 'cracking snacking' we aim to tickle your taste buds!

In advance of the meeting, we'd like to know your favourite meals and snacks too, adding to the mix of what could work for others - so please email us your suggestions
here. As part of developing and updating our dietary advice, your feedback is hugely valuable and very welcome.

If you are not already on our regular zoom invite list and would like to join us, simply
drop me a lineWe look forward to seeing you there!

Snap Away

Despite the cold weather our photo comp' is warming up, with a steady trickle of fabulous photos filling the gallery towards a final judging date of May Day, Monday 1st of May. Please join in and email us 2-3 of your favourite pictures here.

Above is a lovely wintery view across Port Meadow, Oxford - thank you Ann!

Café Catch Up

And finally, don't forget, we have tables booked for lunch on Monday 20th March from 12:30 at Hilliers Garden Centre in Little Marlow.  Please come along, it's a great opportunity to meet others and make friends. There's quite a crowd of us with room for more - if you'd like to come along drop me a line here.

Keep smiling!

Best wishes
