Pedal power

Almost there! We're hosting our annual BBQ and Cycle Ride this coming Saturday 5th August - we hope you can join us.

The BBQ kicks off from 3pm at Wytham Woods near Oxford, finishing at around 6pm. We’re grateful to Oxford Universities letting us use their barn facility near to the walker’s car park, Post Code: OX2 8QQ

Ann Dennis, OOSO Trustee, and of 'Ann's Munchies' fame will be our Head Chef, putting on the best BBQ you’re likely to ever have.

There's no need to book in advance, just turn up on the day, tickets on arrival are £12.50 per person and a small donation for children would be appreciated. If you’d like to pay in advance just go to our main funding page
Support Patients & Carers - Raise Funds for the Upper GI Ward (enthuse.com) and click ‘donate’, adding Gift Aid if you can - but please include your name(s) so we know that you’ve pre-paid.

Bring your own bottle if you wish, soft drinks will be provided. As usual there'll be a fun raffle, plus a special prize to be raffled separately – see below for details - and if you'd like to donate a prize on the day we'd be very grateful too.

Our lycra lads and ladies, led by Anne and Nick, will pedal off from 9am chosing one of two distances, a 40 or 80km route, taking in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside, finishing at the BBQ at around 3pm. If you’d like to spur them on, you’ll find their fundraising page here:

The Golden Ticket Raffle: Le Manoir dinner for two

Our local restaurant, Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons are regular supporters of OOSO, and we thank them yet again for donating a very generous gift, a dinner for two.

Le Manoir is a two Michelin Star restaurant located in Great Milton village, close to Oxford, offering world renowned foodie experiences off the top shelf. We want everyone to have a chance of winning this lovely prize, by way of a separate raffle, with a strip of 5 tickets for £20, having as many strips as you like.

If you’d like to join in but can’t make the BBQ, you can purchase tickets ahead of Saturday by emailing me your contact details and how many tickets you’d like at:
admin@ooso.org.uk . Maybe you’ll have the Golden Ticket!

Short reprieve

As a quick update, Laura’s sky dive for OOSO over Salisbury was postponed due to bad weather, but the reprieve is short-lived and rescheduled for this Friday 4th August.  We wish her a fantastic experience and feather soft landing!

Laura will join us at the BBQ on Saturday, with feet firmly on the ground and snaps to share. There’s still time to spend a penny!

Zoom summary

Consultant Oncologist Lizzy Smyth recently joined us on zoom, introducing us to the basics of chemotherapy, how it works, what the standard treatments are, with an overview of the most advanced therapies available and on trial.

We had a virtual room full of guests, and thank those of you for dialling in, but if you missed it fear not, we will post Lizzy’s 23 minute presentation on the website as soon as we can, and let you know by newsletter.

If you are currently being scheduled for Chemo and would like to see Lizzy’s presentation sooner, drop me a line here at:
admin@ooso.org.uk and I will arrange a drop-box viewing for you.

Thank you again Lizzy for finding time for us!

Snookered

One of our long-time supporters Adrian Bullock was diagnosed with Oesophageal cancer in November 2017 and had an oesophagectomy in April 2018. Adrian owns and runs his own business called ‘Rush’, a popular snooker club, pool hall, sports bar and social club in Witney, Oxfordshire.

In support of OOSO, Adrian proposes to host a themed fundraiser night, either a Casino or Race Night or similar at his club in Witney. Tickets will be sold for the event prior to and on the night with all ticket sales coming to us.

Adrian is seeking local business sponsorship to help with set-up costs including equipment hire. All sponsors will be promoted through Adrian’s 3000 Facebook followers, through the local press and radio, and prominently advertised on the night of the event. Sponsors are invited to join in for a fun night out.

Do you know of a company/business that’d be interested to sponsor some or all of the event? If so, please drop me a line at
admin@ooso.org.uk , or directly to Adrian at info@rush-witney.com .
